Judging the Colerne Pudding Club, 25th January 2013

Not much gets between a woman and her mixing bowl so despite the snow, wind and rain, a hardy bunch of dedicated bakers met for the first Colerne Pudding Club of 2013.  Numbers were down because of the weather but the quality of puddings produced certainly wasn’t affected.  Armed with notepad and spoon I methodically worked my way through the table of puddings from white chocolate, hazlenut and berry roulade to raspberry Cranachan. Yum!

There was little to choose between my favourite top three so I…ahem…had to taste them all a few times to make absolutely sure I’d made the right choices!  I see why Mary Berry loves her job!

After much deliberation, the worthy winner of third place went to a warm chocolate and nut sponge pudding covered in hot chocolate sauce, second was a fluffy and light pecan, caramel and cream pavlova, and first prize went to a soft and very, very moorish chocolate roulade with fresh berries and a raspberry coulis. Delicious and absolutely perfect comfort food for a cold, wet and windy night!

A glass of wine and some cake chat later the group disbands for another few months with a Comic Relief Junior Pudding Club also planned for March.
